Hector a five year old Gordon Setter started to lose hair especially around the face and feet. He was diagnosed as having adult-onset demodicosis which is caused by the demodex mite. This in turn led to secondary skin infections. Hector was also found to have an underactive thyroid which would have contributed to this condition. Appropriate thyroid medication as well as antibiotics and many weekly baths with the awful-smelling drug amitraz have restored him to his former lustrous self!

Over many months the benign tumour on the underside of Wolfie’s chest grew to quite a size. Early on a fine needle aspirate had confirmed that this was a benign lipoma but because Wolfie, a Belgian Shepherd dog, was 11 years of age it was hoped that the growth would stabilise and surgery could be avoided. When the mass began to interfere with Wolfie’s comfort when lying down, surgery became necessary. As the surgical wound was large and in need of protection from the ground when he lay down, Wolfie was re-bandaged frequently and wore t-shirts for protection. Healing took almost six weeks but now he is fighting fit once more.
